Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) was formerly T&T (telephone & telegraph), a national carrier, and a department for the government of Pakistan. And formerly, the Auditor General of Pakistan’s staff, which includes an Accountant General, was responsible for the department’s audit, bookkeeping and an accounting. At some stage, pre- & post-privatization, this responsibility has been shifted but come post-privatization, it rests in a Directorate of Commercial Accounting, PTCL. The role has been about “foreseeing and planning the accurate & good account, contributing over the final assessments in the preparation of the company's accounts and financial statements”, frequently as quarterly, semi-annually and annually. Then I had a role in the external audit, where I used to retrieve the records, information, ledgers, journals, registers, and all kinds of evidences of transactions and recordings for the auditors and see the discrepancies, anomalies and abnormalities they have found and then plan a corrective action. I also had role by general-ledger postings too, general ledger central control, and trial. Besides this, I was also a supervisor of the company’s general provident fund account, billing & revenue records, and an MIS/IT project in which data communication and processing and two financial and/or accounting systems i.e., SAP and Oracle, had to be tested for functionality, adaptability, scalability and finality.
