Job Description
We are seeking a highly alert and detail-oriented Emergency Dispatcher to join our emergency response team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for receiving and prioritizing emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching appropriate emergency services (police, fire, medical), and providing essential support and guidance to callers in distress.
Key Responsibilities:
- Answer emergency (911) and non-emergency calls promptly and professionally.
- Determine the nature, location, and priority of emergencies and dispatch appropriate emergency services.
- Provide lifesaving instructions, including CPR, over the phone while awaiting emergency personnel.
- Operate radio, telephone, and computer equipment to relay information accurately.
- Maintain detailed logs of calls, dispatches, and other critical data.
- Monitor emergency response units and provide ongoing support with updated information.
- Coordinate with law enforcement, fire departments, and medical teams efficiently.
- Remain calm and collected during high-pressure situations and rapidly changing circumstances.
- Adhere to all standard operating procedures, laws, and regulations regarding emergency communication and data privacy.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate or bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, Communications, or related field (preferred).
- Prior experience in emergency dispatching or public safety communications is an asset.
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Strong multitasking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency in computer systems, including CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) software.
- Availability to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Certifications (Preferred or Required):
- Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- NCIC/TCIC Certification (if applicable)
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced, high-stress call center environment
- Sitting for long periods, wearing a headset
- 24/7 operation with rotating shifts
