Job Summary:

The Head of Audit and Tax will lead and oversee all internal audit and taxation functions of the REIT. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with financial regulations, maintaining tax efficiency, enhancing internal controls, and managing risks. The individual will work closely with external auditors, tax advisors, and senior management to ensure robust governance and tax planning.


Key Responsibilities:

Audit:

  • Develop and implement the internal audit plan aligned with strategic and operational risks.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes.
  • Report findings and recommendations to the Audit Committee and monitor remediation plans.
  • Conduct special investigations and reviews as requested by the Board or management.
  • Oversee external audits and ensure timely and accurate responses to auditor requests.
  • Ensure SOX (or local equivalent) compliance if applicable.

Tax:

  • Oversee the REIT’s direct and indirect tax compliance and planning strategies.
  • Ensure timely filing and accuracy of tax returns and reports in all jurisdictions of operation.
  • Manage tax risk, including audits, assessments, and disputes.
  • Optimize the REIT’s tax position through strategic structuring while ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws.
  • Stay abreast of changes in tax legislation, especially REIT-specific rules, and advise management accordingly.
  • Work closely with external tax consultants and advisors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA, CA, CTA, or equivalent qualification required.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in audit and tax, with at least 5 in a leadership role.
  • Prior experience in a REIT, real estate, or investment trust environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of IFRS/GAAP, REIT regulations, and tax laws.
  • Experience with ERP systems and audit tools is an advantage.
